Movement and Motion - 1st Blog

Wow this is my first ever blog for college (excuse the whole awkwardness of this first post!)...so anyway here we go.....'Movement and Motion' is the title for our project for semester 1, lasting about 3 months. At first I was interested in the movement of light, focusing on skies, how light changes throughout the day and in different weather conditions and the movement from day to night. I was inspired by the Post Impressionist painter Paul Cezanne and his series of paintings of 'Le Mont St.Victoire' and by Impressionist Claude Monet's series of paintings of the Rouen Cathedral. Both artists did studies of these landscapes at different times of the day, showing the change in light.

I photographed a landscape near where I live (Slievenamon in Tipperary) over 24 hours to show the movement of light in a day. Here are a few of the photos that I took.

I then did studies of the same section of sky in my sketchbook using a viewfinder stuck to my apartment window and did these studies in acrylic paint, water colour, oil pastel and chalk pastel.
